The Hydrology & Climate Impacts in Mountain Regions research group at SLF and ETH Zurich studies water and climate extremes in mountain regions under global change. #extremes, #floods, #droughts, #heatwaves, #fires, #compoundevents

This week we hosted the WSL hydro day 💦 in Davos. Four hydrology groups within WSL contributed to this gathering. This event nicely highlights the diversity of hydrology, evidenced by the wide spectrum of topics covered within the three hours. We look forward to gathering again next spring! 🎉 🎉

This week Dr. Emanuele Bevacqua from Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research visited our group, and gave an impressive presentation on "Compound climate events under global warming" at ETH Zurich. We had great exchanges and discussions with him!🙂
Last week, we had our annual group retreat in Walenstadt! The group retreat tradition helps us reflect on what we have done and what could be improved in the past year. We had a lot of fun during this 2-day event. We had our group dinner with the nice view of Walensee and we drew our science 🎨🎨🎨.
We warmly welcome our new postdoc researcher Dr. Ahmed Elkouk. He aims to investigate floods under climate change to support the development of sustainable adaptation measures in the Swiss Rhône River. Outside research, he finds peace in reading and quietly watching the flow of a river.
‼️ We are looking forward for a new PhD student to join our team this fall! 🤝 someone who combines data-driven and physically-based modeling. 🌦️hydrological storylines under climate change and assess local risks 🏙️ 100%, Zurich, fixed-term 📢 Spread the word: jobs.ethz.ch/job/view/JOP...
Switch flipped for conditions conducive to #fire: Dry #weather + low #humidity are the main driving forces behind #forestfires, with #temperature playing less of a role. #Wind + a lack of #snow encourage forest fires in #winter. More: www.slf.ch/en/news/swit... 📷 LFV Südtirol @hyclimm.bsky.social

We are happy to share the HYCLIMM moments at EGU 2026! 🙂🍾 We interacted with the fast-developing scientific communities on hydrology and wildfires during the one week conference. We had inspiring discussions and came back with a full basket of new ideas.💡💡💡 See you in 2027!

🌊 A big thanks to our Repower guides to show us the hydroelectric power plant answer all our questions! ⛰️ We climbed down 332 steps into the ground to see where the water flows from Davos to Klosters, where the Pelton turbines produce energy for the valley.
