Drop me a line if youโ€™d be interested in participating in a conversation like that. Iโ€™d like to hear about your needs and whether we can build a collective solution.
And I hear it with enormous pride right now, both for what the researchers in my (need I say small and underfunded?) college are showing the rest of our university, but also for what our (underfunded and often underappreciated) university can show the nation and the world. +
#32 globally in arts and humanities research. #15 nationally. Little puppy on the porch, barking with the big dogs. cal.msu.edu/news/msu-ran...
One of the usual top-of-the-pack veteran servers said, in classic NOLA fashion, "look at that -- little puppy on the porch barking with the big dogs!" I hear his voice in my head every time I see an underdog defying expectations and showing what they can do. +
Pleased to talk to IOI about our approach at @digitalscholar.bsky.social to developing and supporting open infrastructure, including the many ways our small team is working to support the larger field.

So, so true: โ€œGoogle Scholar has never been enough.โ€ Personally, Iโ€™d say the same about a lot of commercial library discovery engines, which often cannot tell the difference between a book and a review of a book. Human curation, not for profit, supporting the scholarly societies that support you.
I would love to talk with librarians & others worried about the future of their repositories. Is there a potential role for Knowledge Commons/KCWorks in mirroring institutional repositories such that they're protected against uncertain futures?
Many years ago, when I was bartending in a NOLA restaurant before going back to grad school, a very new young server surprised everyone by ending up in the top three for sales one week. +
