The best models are good at ensuring the resemblance to text also resembles factuality, that’s the *symbol of text* being aligned with the *symbols in text*.
Lawyers on both sides of this case either admitted to directly using AI or admitted to rubber stamping legal briefs that had been prepared with AI without reviewing them.
Some of the lawyers involved were unaware that cases could be hallucinated.

It’s possible too that cognitive debt is useful, if you have any intention of digging out of it. Fact checking generated text as a way into the actual literature / knowledge is probably quite productive (though I don’t think that it needs to be or even could be universalized in classrooms).
