Many locations could tie or break records for their warmest overnight low temperature.
🌡️For example, overnight temperatures are forecast to run 5°F–15°F above average across much of the southern, central, and eastern U.S., with some areas seeing lows 15°F–20°F above normal.
🚨Climate change is making hot summer nights more commo — and more dangerous.🚨
From June 8–12, about 135 million people across the southern and eastern U.S. are expected to experience overnight temperatures made at least 5x more likely by human-caused climate change.
🌡️Hotter stadiums. Higher stakes.
At this year’s #FIFAWorldCup, every degree counts.

The Earth is speaking. Are you listening?
From record heat to stronger storms, the signs of a warming planet are hard to ignore. At #ClimateCentral, we work to make climate science clear, local, and actionable.
Because climate science matters. And so do you.

🌙Why do warm nights matter?
Our bodies rely on cooler nighttime temperatures to recover from daytime heat. When temperatures stay elevated overnight, health risks increase, including the likelihood of:
🔴Heat stress
🔴Dehydration
🔴Other heat-related illnesses

🌡️Explore #ClimateCentral's Climate Shift Index: Ocean to discover how our planet's changing climate is altering daily sea surface temperatures: csi.climatecentral.org/ocean
The paper, published in @science.org, finds that:
🌊Human-caused sea level rise is detectable at 97% of global tide gauge sites investigated
🌊Climate change was responsible for 58% of the observed days with extreme water levels during 2000-2018

New #ClimateCentral-led research shows that climate change has nearly tripled the number of days with extreme water levels since the 1970s.
According to paper author & Climate Central climate scientist @danielgilford.bsky.social, "The effects of human-caused climate change are already here."
🌀 On the first episode of #ExtremeWeatherExplained, @shelwinkleywx.bsky.social breaks down what you need to know about a potential "super" El Niño, the role of climate change, and how we help people understand these complex realities.
