This is what happens when the gates are breached and you’ve given up trying to repair them. If the media environment is toxic, you cannot fix it with reading bans. The problem is everywhere. It can only be stemmed at the source.
The government won’t be bullied off X, though. That’s the line it wants to draw. It is an insane concession of control over the information environment. I don’t like banning media, as a rule. But if platforms refuse to apply the law, then that is the appropriate sanction.
