THE PEOPLE’S JOKER or I SAW THE TV GLOW.
The best superhero is Swamp Thing because sometimes Swamp Thing wanders around a planet a galaxy away as he has an existential debate with a copy of himself he made out of azure soil and sometimes Swamp Thing fights dracula at a gas station
This is especially great in the context of contemporary filmmaking, which are filled with uninspired scenes of people talking to each other. Dialogue can weigh down a film; but it can also be shot with intentionality and purpose, and Spielberg rarely misses a chance to make a choice.
One more time for the night shift. I don’t think DISCLOSURE DAY is brilliant. In fact, I think the story is pretty bad. But Spielberg films it so breathlessly I got swept up anyway. (Until the ending, that is.)
