FTC's suit against WPATH will be dismissed before a court even reaches the obvious First Amendment Qs because the FTC Act applies only to "commerce" and thus applies to non-profits only when they engage in "commerce," which WPATH does not. 🧵
what you do is pass a "kill glonzo" package which includes the glonzo-killing provision but also provisions that actually address the problem (residential upzoning, usually)
was primed to agree with this but I don't know if it's true. like everything else he got lucky - if Harris wins the 2024 election none of this happens, and Elon's purchase of twitter had ~nothing to do with Trump winning.
it's all luck

This is probably right in the short term, but seems disastrous in the long term. Which is unsettling, because the long term is just a sequence of short terms.
I'm basically where this poster is, or where Barro is: a politician's job in 2026 is to win elections against fascists, not change the electorate's mind. If slopulism with little real-world impact wins your elections, do it. bsky.app/profile/lawn... www.joshbarro.com/p/i-said-dem...

Kamala Harris's endorsements of some dumb populist economic policies (and also some smart ones) are good signs she is focused on winning. But she has more pandering to do on energy policy.
i wish it wasn't the case but elon buying X seems to be one of the most successful propaganda campaigns of all time. he bet that people would be addicted enough to posting that they wouldn't leave no matter what. he was basically right and can effectively change how they think and act now!
functional moron
What if you run a political campaign promising to hunt down glonzo to lower people’s power bill, and once in power you enact a massive solar power investment and people’s power bills go down, but you don’t talk up the solar power, you talk about killing glonzo?
it's remarkable how like, you can visibly notice how people who still use X regularly are either getting dragged to the right (if on the centre-left or centre) or just getting more toxic in general
