Lovely to see @mixaeljones.bsky.social's daughter enjoying her 3rd #NewYearPlantHunt & looking very grown-up!
Pic below shows her aged 20 months & now she's graduated from spotter sheet to magnifying glass - what a legend!
Spotter sheets are here for anyone less advanced:

Candlesnuff fungus, rising up like a ghostly apparition from the rainforest floor and waving its limbs.
A saprotrophic species, it helps break down deadwood. It's also bioluminescent, emitting a faint green light by night.
A reminder that 90% of Ireland's so-called 'forests' are industrial plantations, virtually empty of nature.
It doesn't have to be like this: with a bit of thought, we could satisfy our timber needs AND have huge tracts of natural forest ecosystems, bursting with life.
This is very exciting-the area discovered has high potential for new species discovery too 🤩…Whale graveyard dating back five million years discovered www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
One of the more unusual items in our herbarium collection! This old leather boot is home to several types of lichen 🥾
It was collected on a beach in 1975 by Brian J Coppins in Ballantrae, Scotland.

I have a Wolf supermoon stargazing challenge for you tonight (Jan3rd, weather Gods willing). Raise your arm to the moon to find Jupiter which is ~2-fingers below it to the right. The Gemini twins, Castor and Pollux are ~3-fingers to the left.
This is your last #supermoon until Nov - enjoy! 🔭🧪
A timely reminder from @annashergold.bsky.social to look out for #orchid rosettes while you're hunting for flowers, 'tho they don't count for #NewYearPlantHunt.
Need some help IDing orchids before they bloom? Try this helpful guide by Mike Waller @ukorchids.bsky.social: www.nhm.ac.uk/take-part/id...

A citizen science project is aiming to document species on the Cowal Peninsula for the first time in 50 years.
A chilly #NewYearPlantHunt with the family! ❄️ 🌼
It’s my daughter’s 3rd year of joining in and she enjoyed taking a close look at tiny hazel flowers with her magnifying glass 🔍 🌸
We found 19 species in flower and a bonus Blackcap eating Mistletoe berries. Great fun!

@BSBI #NewYearPlantHunt - just a few images from my New Year Plant Hunt in NE Hampshire - disappointed not to see any EPO orchid rosettes, but pleased to see both male & female hazel flowers
If you've got clear skies, go outside and wave at our neighbour who is looking particularly stunning tonight. And if you have them, root out the binoculars to get a closer look at the grey maria: ~3.5 billion years ago these were seas of molten lava 🤓 #supermoon 🔭🧪
