FOOTBALL is one of the words, etymologically speaking, I haven’t really looked up.
It’s a simple compound of FOOT and BALL.
Of course, there’s plenty to note on the cognates and historical forms of those constituent words. But not a ton else to say, right?

We were up at the cottage this weekend, and it was a lovely relaxing break from the world, if very buggy. I tried to film the sheer number of mosquitoes hovering outside the screened in porch, but never managed to capture the true extent (30+ in a one foot area). You could hear the whine at dusk.
