The authors show that electing a mayor under ~35 years old reduces deforestation🌱 by 56% — with no negative hit to local income 💰

One partial explanation: young mayors are found to systematically hire younger public servants 🧑💼, suggesting that generational renewal of local state capacity may play a role. Effects are not explained by changes in environmental spending or rural credit allocation.
