I'd actually not view this in that way - Mills may have all but suspended her campaign, but this result is worse than the sparse polling, she is a literal former governor, and he's had the scandals.
This is basically the Maine Dem party telling people they don't give a fuck.

tbh this is a pretty decent showing of protest votes for Mills considering she literally isn’t campaigning
we’ve got about a month for more stories to come out that force him to drop out, if they don’t we’re stuck with him
he may well win regardless given the political environment
