A male Xanthogramma pedissequum (Superb Ant-hill Hoverfly) in my S. Cambridgeshire garden today.
Not particularly rare, but a stunning hoverfly, nevertheless.

When it comes to choosing flowering plants for the garden, my wife selects flowers she likes, while I'll watch them before purchasing, to see how many pollinators they attract.
However, her choice of Bidens ferulifolia is a winner, I think we'll be growing it every year from now on.
