An addendum thread—someone asked, quite sensibly, if we have ivermectin now, are they still as big a deal? I go into some detail about why they are.

Kinda the same reason that being shot is a big deal even if they extract the bullet. A screwworm will begin to burrow into live flesh immediately upon hatching. They can eat their way right down to bone. Ivermectin can kill it, but you’ve still had a tunnel eaten in your flesh.
