If you've ever been to a community board meeting where people base their opinion of whether or not children should not be crushed by cars and trucks while crossing the street on how long the people making the argument have lived in the city and where they're from, you'll recognize this immediately.

Doug raises an excellent point here but even more broadly, how is this not just naked nativism of the same kind espoused by Stephen Miller? she's cloaking her Fear of the Dangerous Other in nebulous complaints about Iowans or whatever but this is still textually 100% a complaint about immigrants
