In a world drowning in conflict and grief, we crave what keeps us alive: joy—our daily bread; hope—our living water; kindness—the roof over our souls.

By 2026, digital media had engulfed everyday life, so I created The Gurdeep Magazine for the tactile, unhurried act of reading on paper. Inside, you’ll find essays by diverse writers (including me), crafted for slow reading and centered on joy, hope, and positivity. gurdeep.ca/magazine.

If you are searching for happiness, start with something small and honest. Step outside for a minute and feel the air. Thank your body for carrying you. Speak gently to yourself, especially when you have failed. Let sadness have its place, like a shadow that proves there is light nearby.
One day I was thinking how easy it is to confuse positivity with denial. Denial is a kind of desert. It drains everything, including the truth. Healthy positivity is more like a well. It does not reject tears. It holds them.
Dance has become more than a performance for me. It has become a way of meeting myself in silence. When I move, feelings have somewhere to go. Grief can travel down my arms. Anxiety can leave through my feet. Hope can rise through my chest without pretending everything is fine.
We come into this world with the capacity for sadness as part of our human nature, but finding joy requires conscious effort and dedication and learning to find how to co-exist with sadness.

The dance or any kind of movement is not a denial. It is a hand extended across distance, across culture, across misunderstanding. It says, We can meet here. We can be different and still belong to one another. And when you feel that belonging, you realize happiness is not somewhere else.

Every stop reminded me that joy is not only personal. It is shared air. Strangers became a chorus. People waved from windows. Elders nodded. Children laughed without needing a reason. Some people told me they had been carrying heaviness for years. gurdeeppandher.substack.com/p/one-day-i-...
