Weird the lowkey relief I feel when I'm working on fiction set in Canada and I can use Canadian English without anticipating a UK or US copy editor. My characters are walking out the door to go see someone who lives three blocks away and asking to use the washroom and nobody can stop them.

I've been doing research in newspapers from the 70s & 80s and it's a reminder of how many things sucked when I was a kid. Doctors advising brandy and sherry for babies with coughs. "Today's Child" advertising children for adoption as if they were cats. Abused women turning to Dear Abby for advice.
