I'll explain & dive into some etymology.
"Pigeon" is from Old French 'pijon', which is from Late Latin: 'pīpiō', an onomatopoeic term for a young chirping bird.
The Latin version of "a peep-peep."
But Romans had a /different/ name for pigeons.
