Most motorists break the law every time they drive.
Nearly 9 in 10 motorists routinely break 20mph limits.
50% routinely break 30 mph limits.
Over 50% of motorists haven’t read the HC since passing their test, so are ignorant to their responsibilities.

Very valid points about active travel investment paying for itself aside, I’m not really convinced that under £1bn a year capital investment in transport modes that account for a third of journeys should really be considered excessive.
Cllr Mohamed Makawi condemns the horrific knife attack in Belfast and sends his thoughts to the victim and their family, wishing them a full recovery.
Cllr Makawi also expresses concern over attempts to exploit such tragedies to spread division or hatred for political gain.
Once again this Labour Government does bad stuff.
Active travel money is rare enough, but to allow LAs to use it as generic highways money is a betrayal.
But betrayal is what we expect from this shower.
I shall watch this with interest. There's no way to get 60% of kids actively travelling to school without disrupting current patterns of car-based mobility. This includes making all urban streets safer, not just those right outside schools

With the full caveat that I have never managed a govt dept, as Wes Streeting knows very well having been health secretary, investment in active travel *pays for itself many times over* in better public health outcomes etc. Cutting investment is often a false economy, as the UK knows to its cost.

#ActiveTravel is better value for money and offers much greater returns than road spending, but too often it’s been undermined by stop-start funding. HMG is now allowing councils to reallocate AT funding to general roads budgets - this is not right.
