We used to post etymologies. We still do, but we used to, too.
I'd say "this article stole my joke" but I am sure I am far from the first to make this connection.
Any writers out there have publication resources for specific fiction genres (i.e. fantasy, romance)? I have my go-tos I use (Newpages, CLMP, etc.) but their call for submissions page / search features don't filter by more specific genres. Asking for a community writing group I facilitate.
This is what struck me when I read the Granta "story." My mindset went from "that's an interesting turn of phrase/defamiliarization... that would be too if it wasn't right next to it... okay we're just piling them on now... oh my god could you just be concrete for a few sentences?"
