Amazing topic in the lab of an equally amazing PI π¦π¦
Last week I had the pleasure of giving a guest-lecture to Msc students at Antwerp University about what reptiles can teach us about the evolution of cognition, and the research at @creaf.cat on the role of behaviour & cognition in biological invasions. Thanks @uafunmorph.bsky.social for inviting me!
Newππ§ paper! To better understand what aspects of group-living are cognitively demanding, we tested whether individual recognition depends on relative brain size in guppies. Spoilers: guppies recognized and preferred familiar fish, regardless of brain size!

New ππ§ paper led by Olivia Carmstedt (not on Bluesky): Streaming for Fish. To understand how reciprocal social interactions affect brain development, we exposed guppies to either live conspecifics or video-recordings of fish. royalsocietypublishing.org/rsbl/article...

We studied lizards from 12 Croatian islands and found substantial variation in their chemical signal profiles. Ecological factors didnβt explain it. Instead, divergence was best explained by non-adaptive processes π¦ποΈ @oikosjournal.bsky.social nsojournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Abstract. Social interactions form key developmental cues for plasticity in the vertebrate brain. However, few experimental studies disentangle specific as
Abstract It is often assumed that group-living animals require larger brains in order to deal with the various social challenges they encounter. One such key challenge is the need to recognize and dis...
