While his mountain of horrible personal conduct could fill multiple books, one fact in particular stands out: A year ago, Musk’s actions directly led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. He did it knowingly. And, worse — gleefully. Read more: www.theverge.com/tech/949259/...

Immensely grateful to #NSERC for 36 yrs of research support via Discovery Grants. I owe nearly my entire scientific career to their strategy to fund long-term programs, not short-term projects. Just signed off on a 0$ balance on my last DG. I dare to think it was a worthwhile long-term investment.

Environmental assessment in Canada is broken. The mine escapes assessment through a loophole (below minimum capacity) but once approved can exceed that capacity without further assessment. And it's only getting worse under Carney. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Come work with us and do research in Germany’s only national park in the Alps, iconic Berchtesgaden Nationalpark! We are looking to fill a PostDoc position in vegetation ecology (tinyurl.com/PostDocBerch...) and a PhD position in mountain forest dynamics (tinyurl.com/PhDBerchtesg...).
I’ve been approached re a few Frontiers special issues led by reputable scientists, but I’m afraid I always decline based on my own experiences reviewing there & stories like this. I’m sure good work is published there but is it worth the reputational risk of being aligned with these practices?
Yet another example of the lack of scientific integrity in impact assessment processes, especially about mitigation measures. “…there’s no legal requirement to monitor outcomes, there’s limited evidence to show whether those relocation efforts actually work.” www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I'm not against hunting G-bears based on science, but this minister in Alberta has ignored science times and again for G-bears, mountain goats, wolverine, lynx, cougar, bighorn sheep and otters. I would not trust him managing house mice. So I signed.
Bighorn ewe U15 (black peace) is 11. This year she lost her lamb at birth, has weaned 4 lambs. W7 (white Z) is 9, she has a son, lamb FF1. She has weaned 5 lambs. #LongTerm

Canada voted against the cons but got a conservative PM in liberal's clothing. Proposed 'major projects' bill treats the environment as a nuisance. Start construction before assessment, wreck habitat of endangered species like killer whales and caribou. HELL NO! 🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...
COSEWIC is the only bit of Canada's flawed Species at Risk Act that functions effectively, issuing status assessments based on a consultative, knowledge-based process. Now the Carney gov't has cut its budget, so Canadians will not know which species are going extinct www.thetyee.ca/News/2026/06...

B.C. moves millions of amphibians for development, but researchers say their survival isn't tracked | CBC News
Millions of amphibians and reptiles are displaced and relocated from their habitats because of development projects in B.C., according to a new study. But researchers say there’s no monitoring require...

I’ve officially resigned as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience. It used to be a reputable journal, but became a case study in how forced automation destroys academic integrity. 👇
