Let’s Talk About It: AI and the Academic Librarian Job Search by Eleanor Ball acrlog.org/2025/12/09/a...

1. Recruiters must not use AI to assess application materials or make recruitment decisions.
It is impossible to do so while maintaining the values of transparency, respect and equity.
4. Employers using external recruitment companies must communicate their standards for ethical and equitable recruitment to those companies, and hold them accountable for any lapses.
2. Employers must have a clear, justified policy on AI use in applications, covering whether AI use is acceptable, if any AI detection tools will be used, and how suspected AI use will be handled.
We'd be really interested in hearing about what people's experiences have been with AI in recruitment.
And as ever, our solidarity with anyone currently job hunting: it's grim out there, and it seems like the current AI hype and AI anxiety are only making things worse.
3. Applications should not be rejected solely because of suspicion that application materials have been created by AI.
