For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, a summer trip to a natural place may be just the restorative break we need to help reset our cognition. Read about a new study on nature & attention in a Q&A with Tasmanian cognitive neuroscientist Cameron Bell:

Happy to contribute my reflections on some of the cutting edge research presented in a symposium #CNS2026 on the topic of mapping our emotional experiences in the brain. It was fun working on this blog post with @lisampmunoz.bsky.social ☺️

Dear Colleagues,
As many of you have no doubt heard, the President's budget request for FY27 recommends not only cutting the National Science Foundation (NSF) by nearly 55%(page 77), it also zeros out funding for the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Directorate. 2/
FABBS is in close contact with colleagues at NSF, congressional offices, and the broader scientific and academic communities. This consequential proposal directly contradicts Congressional guidance... 4/

... and is being advanced without a transparent or thoughtful evidence-informed process at a time when NSF has no congressionally confirmed director. Join us on Friday, 4/10 @ 1:30 pm ET for an update and guidance on what FABBS and our members can do: us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regi... 5/ end
We are extremely concerned by reports that NSF plans to move forward with the dismantlement, independent of Congressional deliberations on the annual budget. See Nature article: www.nature.com/articles/d41... 3/

Read how a symposium about emotions at #CNS2026 was like watching the scientific equivalent of "Rashomon," Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 masterpiece where four witnesses give different accounts of the same pivotal event. A new guest post by @mohithvarma.bsky.social

We received the an invitation from the Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences (FABBS) for CNS members who are faculty to join a discussion on 4/10 about federal science funding:

This is in response to the the President's budget request for FY27. 1/
A new study confirms looks at how exposure to nature can give us a restorative break to help then boost attention.
