@saletan.bsky.social: "One of the things that Cornyn said on that electin night speech was, 'in our democracy, those who show up decide for those who don't.' Which was kind of an oblique way of rebuking all the people who stayed home. This is what you get people."
With the complicity of the Republican Senate, Trump has once again put himself above the law; the slush fund lives. Maybe this is the last time anyone will think it will turn out differently.
Today's Morning Shots, from @saletan.bsky.social and Ben Parker:
Why did Hegseth, on D-Day, ignore the invasion of Ukraine while decrying an "invasion" of immigrants across the Mediterranean?
For the same reason Trump and Vance do the same thing. Their focus isn't on Russian aggression. It's on "keeping Muslims and Africans out of Europe and the United States."
Trump's name is now gone from the Kennedy Center website (at least the top of the homepage). Next up: the building itself, dammit.

This is a really useful breakdown (aptly! it's the name of his newsletter) of the 3 Democrats in the Michigan Senate race, by @citizencohn.bsky.social. He interviewed all of them in depth. Video excerpts from the interviews included. www.thebulwark.com/p/issues-tha...
On FTN, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) raises an eyebrow at Trump's relationship with Putin.
"One of the concerns that many of us have when it comes to this administration ... they're very critical of Europe, they're critical of the EU, they're critical of NATO ... and you never hear 'em criticize Russia."

"There’s no legitimate reason why an American secretary of defense would ignore a military invasion of a European country while raising alarms about immigration. But there’s an obvious illegitimate reason."

Team Trump keeps mum about Russia’s attack on Ukraine—but fixates on how immigrants ‘threaten’ Europe’s future.
Mike Johnson recounts what he told Trump after Butler.
"I said, 'Mr. President, I believe there's biblical significance to the fact that the first bullet, you know, hit your ear. I mean, I think God wants us to listen to Him and seek His divine guidance and and intervention.'"
In case you thought the party that mocked and persecuted trans people would leave everyone else alone.

The following is the transcript of the interview with Rep. Don Bacon, Republican of Nebraska, that aired on "Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan" on June 7, 2026.
Rep. Bacon (R-NE) calls out Speaker Johnson for pressing House Republicans to vote against aid to Ukraine.
"He lobbied pretty hard ... The Speaker whipped against us, so that's why he drove that number down. I think he was wrong. He says he's pro-Ukraine, but the actions speak louder than words."
