They tried to get the bartender to drink with them. I had to help explain why that's very illegal in some states (Washington), but legal and encouraged in others (Wisconsin).

Oh no. They don't understand tipping. They asked me "what's the thing where you add a little bit on to the drink price called?"
And I had to explain why it's s 20% minimum. And you can maybe bribe them with higher tips, but you absolutely cannot threaten to withhold it.

Found some Belgian fans at the bar in Seattle. Getting to practice my french, and it's great.
They asked why this state and the nation's capital are both called Washington. Then they asked why it's called "District of Columbia"
My answer: "personne ne sais pas"
