We identified spatial hotspots of vulnerability across the tropics and the most vulnerable bird and mammal species. We hope these maps and species rankings can help support conservation prioritization in areas and for taxa most at risk from hunting pressure.
🌐🌴 Current global hunting threat maps treat species as equally at risk everywhere in their range. We attempted to address this by combining where hunters actually go with which species are most likely to be targeted and least able to cope, for 6k+ trop. birds and 4k+ mammals: doi.org/10.32942/X24...
We used a vulnerability framework with 3 components: exposure (a hunting pressure map we developed doi.org/10.32942/X2V...), sensitivity (likelihood of being targeted, based on traits, phylogeny and trading information), and adaptive capacity (ability to cope, also trait based), for 3 purposes.

Nature Reviews Biodiversity
Nature Reviews Biodiversity, Published online: 23 July 2025; doi:10.1038/s44358-025-00064-7The terrestrial ecosystems of Southeast Asia are both globally important reservoirs of biodiversity, and a provider of resources and livelihoods for millions of people across the region. This Review summarizes the threats to biodiversity in Southeast Asia, and the conservation solutions required to ensure successful outcomes for biodiversity and people.
