Up to date on One Piece! An incredible journey. I saw so much cynicism about late time skip era arcs that I expected my enthusiasm to wane, but no. I can't really say how good one piece actually is, but it's as popular as it is for a reason. Essential storytelling for post-modernity.
extract shooters such a depressng point for video games to end up at. shooter rpg loot collection quest games where the shooting is meaningless, the character creation is meaningless, the loot is meaningless and the quests are meaningless. games that are played just for the sake of playing them
just endless clicking through menus and rewards screens and all of that and every part of playing the game seems to get in the way of the collection, but there's no real loot system or char creation either. so nothing compared to a hardcore arpg or anything similar
Same theme exists in white town with law - the powers that be grind human bodies in factories and make silence through violence. What I love about one piece is how it so clearly shows how propaganda effects citizenry, and it believes that people can be woken up to the truth
Done with the New World, on to Wano!
By having the fights won by the gladiators instead of the straw hats it shows the people as a community rejecting the system of the world govt, which is ultimately more meaningful. That system is also represented on a micro scale in the toys system
One of the rare examples of pop culture entertainment that clearly recognises the depravity and suffering that exists in the world, but it doesn’t stoop to cynicism or ‘indomitable human spirit’ shit either. It says everything must be destroyed and rebuilt
One piece update SPOILERS AHEAD: Really enjoyed dressrosa! I think it’s an interesting foil to alabasta and smoker says as much at the end. De-emphasising the straw hats is a weird choice, but i dont think it is without intention
The peace and prosperity that existed within dressrosa was only made possible through the repression of the experience of the oppressed class. In dressrosa the non-recognition of that class is literal, but it is what the world govt is always doing across the world regardless (like in alabasta)
Wano done!!!!! Gonna read some more fata morgana and then potentially watch egghead, it seems like a really cool arc 150 chapters in 5 days, one of which i didnt read at all, got me feelin dizzy tho
