Not all herbivorous fish play the same role on coral reefs. In Tetiaroa Atoll (French Polynesia), we found that scrapers, algal croppers, and grazers are abundant — but browsers and bioeroders, which are critical for controlling macroalgae and maintaining reef structure, are largely missing!
