Highly recommend catching the We Who Remain exhibition of Sámi contemporary art at Kiasma_ in Helsinki. It's on until September. Excellence! 1. Sami Future (Arvid Sveen, 1980) 2. Dollet (detail) (Katarina Pirak Sikku, 2006/2026)

Not many work updates this week, but a film recommendation from Finland: Jossain on valo joka ei sammu (Somewhere there is a light that never goes out), 2025 First Feature from Lauri-Matti Parppei - brilliant small town/coastal vibes, sonic geographies and transformative platonic intimacies 🖤

Pulling together a new article from my current project on queer space in and through the archive; thinking about what happens to ’lived experience’ when spaces and times are brought to touch in a little box of archival treasures…

Brought some West Country tradition to my local park here in Finland and held a jolly Wassail with friends and colleagues - auspicious timing with Old Twelfth Night falling in a Saturday!

My Finland-Friday post this week is just more of the chapter that came out this week. I’m really proud of it and people have said nice things. We’re having a ‘queer friendship’ coffee break next week to celebrate in the office 💚 Read it here: www.researchgate.net/publication/...

Deep in archive obsession: I spent this week with Finland’s dyke-kink subcultures, and lots of beautiful photographic portraits therein!

Research visits to the Workers’ Museum, Tampere, began this week. I’ve been slipping around on the fresh snow too! After a month or so of settling in, this week I began to feel like an active researcher again ⭐️🌝💛

Finnish painter Magnus Enckell was born on this week (9 Nov) in 1870. Thanks to @queermodernisms.bsky.social via Insta, I've been enjoying reading about his life and viewing his works. 1. Awakening Faun (1914) 2. By The Window (1919) - a slighter more green representation of my postdoc life atm!

In Turku at Åbo Akademi today for Gender Studies Day. So many great discussions circulating around crip-queer-feminisms, and archival time-travelling with a keynote from Eliza Steinbock. Thanks to the organisers for bringing us together!
