๐๐Really useful report by @bettertransport.bsky.social
on the lessons we need to learn to set Great British Railways up for success.
Done well, it has the potential to deliver major change - not just for rail itself - but through the wider economic and social benefits it could unlock.

๐The govtโs plan to renationalise the rail is ambitious and popular โ but is changing ownership enough of a fix?
Today, FGF publishes a new paper recommending how govt can set up Great British Railways with a clear purpose, strong institutional foundations and meaningful autonomy.
๐ Great to be in Portcullis House yesterday to launch our new interim report on the future of Great British Railways. @elsieblundellmp.bsky.social
๐ค As the Railways Bill progresses, we hope it will support the government to ensure GBR is set up not just to launch, but to last.
Report below ๐
Our recommendations include:
๐ Define and clearly articulate the overarching purpose of GBR and instil a strong organisational culture.
๐ Avoid political micromanagement. Ensure the new organisation has real operational autonomy โ and aim for better, not more or less, regulation.
๐ Go with the grain of devolution. Ensure rail reform is โdone withโ rather than โdone toโ nations and regions.
๐ Tell a stronger story. Boost public and political awareness with a compelling story about how these changes will improve passenger experience, boost growth and unlock opportunity.
