When is an owl, that's not an owl, probably still an owl? It all happens when you start to recreate the pottery of the ancient past. 🏺 And you really should watch through to the end. youtu.be/nT_n4pxxM1M

Because the current project requires me to make 13 full size amphorae, I've had to make drying space in the tool room/materials store. 🏺⚱️And, I've made a special drying rack for the narrow necked ones like these Camolodunum 186As and London 555s. #Archaeology #AncientBluesky

Love this! Also, thank god it's not just us 😎 We were short of an 'Atlantic coastal breeze' to finish off the drying of some salt cod last year
Wales is great for buildings archaeology: early vernacular architecture specialists like Lord Raglan, St Fagans museum (📸) & very accurate listing entries... but there are currently no Welsh dates on The Buildings Archaeologist book tour 🥲 Anyone know some events organisers?
Now that's commitment! Reminds us of this article from last year, where the researchers separated all the fish remains from the bottom of a Roman garum-fermentation vat into spines, vertebrae and scales for analysis: doi.org/10.15184/aqy...

When we're making large amphorae ⚱️🏺we make a section and let it dry a little before adding the next section. The Roman potters in Southern Spain or N Africa would have had the assistance of warm dry winds, so here is our electric Sirocco in action. #Archaeology #pottery
