“Trump’s assault on global health has left us in a worse position to combat Ebola”
He:
1. Destroyed USAID—it had supported surveillance systems in the DRC
2. Withdrew the US from WHO
3. Tore up preparedness plans

With Ebola, time is lives. The United States reportedly learned about the outbreak in DRC nine days after WHO did, because we walked away from that partnership. Although not perfect, WHO is essential. The stronger WHO is, the safer we are, as I told @nickkristof.bsky.social. Gift link:
Good to see the Israel supreme court ordering Red Cross visits to the 9,000-plus Palestinians held as security prisoners. If Netanyahu thinks that reports of rape of prisoners are false, he should welcome investigation and exoneration by the RedCross. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/03/w...
On June 4 this year, as every year, I think back to that terrible night in 1989 when I watched China's army fire on the crowd that I was in and massacre unarmed protesters. I'll never forget the courage I saw that night, as well as the cruelty. #Tiananmen www.nytimes.com/2023/06/07/o...
A major new study published today by a panel of Democrats and Republicans ranks states by quality of life. Some good lessons here for policy making.
To see which state ranks No. 1 and how your state ranks (slight tease!), here's a gift link: www.nytimes.com/2026/06/06/o...
Trump, Musk and Rubio slashed aid and scoffed that it was woke nonsense. Now they're seeing that it not only saved one life every 10 seconds but also protected us from diseases like Ebola. Their actions constituted a security failure as well as a moral one. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/03/o...
Right again @nickkristof.bsky.social
“American humanitarian aid not only saved one life every 10 seconds but was also safeguarding the world from epidemics.” #Ebola
This Is Why You Don’t Slash Humanitarian Aid

At Kristof Farms, we not only have great Pinot Noir and hard cider, but also great bears. This from our wildlife camera, a bear hoping to be a basketball player.
