1/3 of the game industry has lost their job in the last two years. Ubisoft closed two more studios today. Everyone is out of work. To that end I'm starting a new bundle to benefit a layoffs hardship fund. Game devs: please consider submitting your PAID games to the bundle, which will launch in July.

Half my career has been working on new IPs that were visually rad but never materialized. The fact that Marathon came out and looks as good as it does helped me deal with the games that were shelved. But that speaks so much to the talent on that team. People I can’t say enough good stuff about.

Game industry hardship fund

Despite how things worked out, getting to be on the concept team on Marathon has been a huge highlight of my career. I got to work with some of the kindest and most talented folks while making visuals that felt genuinely fresh and cool. I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

I’ve seen trailers in the last week that got me so excited! And some that did nothing for me. But across the board, I kept thinking that at least a chunk of folks have work and are able to pay bills. With how dire it is for so many in this industry, I take a lil comfort in knowing some folks are ok

Please don’t take this as anti-critique. There are plenty of trends going on that trouble me a whole lot. I just think it’s important to recognize what a rough place the industry is in right now and celebrate the folks who have work and are doing the best they can despite everything.

A friend recently was reflecting that they felt art direction in games has gotten generally worse. I think it's a good use of our time & energy to celebrate the fact that while there are a lot of whiffs in the world today, the recent era has also seen some of the greatest of all time
