The darkest explanation is someone has a game they need to get to on time.
Assemblywoman @katiebrennan.bsky.social with a fantastic op-ed on the need for state-level YIMBY reforms in New Jersey

OH: "I had to cancel PT because of the half-day."
OH: "I live by the stadium. It's all bullshit. There's no traffic. Events all year."
Some people need to drive home from work, but also how many thousands of doctors appointments and errands or shifts or in-office days were canceled because of this?
It's also pretty crazy that Metrocards took 300ms but OMNY takes 500ms, plus Metrocards were such an economical single motion of movement, swipe and go simultaneously.
I don't care why! It's not good that 30 years later, it's worse!
“He saw urban density as a solution for a wide range of environmental, economic and social challenges. People living in cities use far less energy, per capita. They drive less; their apartments require less heat.”
Higher-density and sustainable mobility go hand-in-hand to address the climate crisis
Delayed hot take: OMNY and TAPP are annoyingly high-latency and worse than SmartLink and results in a lot of people running to a locked turnstile. Unlike the SmartLink reader bump, the large flat glass screens of OMNY/TAPP are unergonomic and cards clumsily stick to them and need to be pried off.

At last, a review of the patchwork of state and local regulations that delay projects and drive up costs needlessly
Our victory in court stands: New Jersey can proceed with the development of wind energy.
This is a win for everyone who wants cleaner energy at lower cost.

😡 JCPS is being its usual outrageous anti-parent tire fire. *Just* announced a half day on Tuesday for the World Cup. Claims it is due to traffic. Instead of 2:45pm, school will end at 12pm. But game will start at 3pm?!
This World Cup thing. Big surprise coming out of no where.
👏🚌 Great job Hoboken. Wish Jersey City public comms wasn’t so car-brained about road closures and actually explained bus detours. All the downtown buses were running down Grove St due to the World Cup stuff. Scared of car drivers getting angry at any change, while bus riders are chopped liver.
