site is sheep grazed after July 15th for the last few years. Was previously cattle-grazed but public access makes that difficult now.
Back to do a full survey at that meadow in Richmond (North Yorkshire) and thought it was interesting to compare when I was there 21 May (pretty photo) and today 18 June (green photo).
One of the few moths I can easily ID, the Chimney Sweeper, flying during the day in field full of Pignut, on which its larvae feed.
Would be interested to know if anyone had any thoughts about this robust patch of Restharrow; I'm used to seeing it by the seaside where it is generally much smaller and less dominating of the surrounding vegetation. Is this what it's like in grasslands?
Chuffed to spot these Two-flowered Rush (Juncus biglumis) in flower - still little more than an inch high! High altitude flush, Beinn Ghlas, Lawers range
Filipendula vulgaris, Dropwort. June 2017. Probably at Jeffrey Bog. The more refined and less competitive of the two species. And to be preferred if you want one in your garden.

The studentship that supports PhD candidate Ed Hearn is now featuring the latest good news for the University and the BBC! This work falls within my interest in monitoring change during rewilding and will strengthen existing research in this area. #rewilding #phd #research #bird #ecosystem #ecology
