By the way, this species of wasp parasitizes *another* species of wasp, the wood-boring wasp Tremex columba, commonly called horntails. She lays her egg inside the larva, and when her offspring hatches it consumes its host.

I believe this is an Acadian Flycatcher diving and splashing in my backyard creek. I saw it for this several times (I read this is a unique behavior they do, and there are definitely Acadian Flycatchers in the woods here). Sorry for the video quality... #birds 🐦

We had a little thunderstorm (yay for the rain!) and afterwards I found this very calm Pickerel Frog enjoying the froggy feeling of nice, wet moss by the creek. #frog #herp 🐸
I just finished this #native plant garden. It has a beauty berry bush, a Joe-Pye cultivar that will only get 5 feet tall, some Amsonia, Culver's root, coreopsis, shrubby St. Johns Wort, butterfly weed, and bee balm.
Look at this amazing #insect! I believe it's a Black Giant Icneumanoid Wasp, Megarhyssa atrata. This is a female, and that long "tail" is her ovipositor. She can drill into wood with it! #invertebrate
