Current exudate measurements are largely bulk and miss fine-scale spatial patterns in the rhizosphere. Rhizobacterial biosensors may resolve this; we built sucrose-responsive circuits in Pseudomonas putida (Suc-MAPP) generating ratiometric fluorescence readouts to micromolar sucrose.
