Missed destination, heavy delays Fact checking SMMTs claims on EVs: www.transportenvironment.org/te-united-ki...
If the Government is serious on delivering growth and jobs in the UK it needs to hold the line on the most important Industrial and energy security policy that the country has and which is delivering astounding progress.
Undermining it now is not a “smarter route” it is a step backwards and would jeopardize the entire UK automotive sector which employs almost a million people across the country.
Carmakers that moved early, like Renault, are now gaining market share in the UK and globally thanks to great new EV models. Those that delayed are not victims of policy; they are betting on political backtracking.'' Tim Dexter, T&E UK Vehicles Policy Manager said.
“Let’s be clear: the SMMT has spent years overstating the challenges of the EV transition while downplaying industry inaction to justify weakening the ZEV mandate. The reality is much simpler.
The SMMT’s latest report - Same Destination, Smarter Route - exaggerates the barriers to the EV transition, leaning on selective evidence and shaky claims that do not reflect what is actually happening in the market.
Britain’s automotive industry wants to weaken the ZEV mandate - but its case does not stand up to scrutiny.
