Yeah I don’t mean to diminish the growth but a lot of the decline in coal was due to growth in natural gas. It’s really good that we are burning way less coal and using more renewables but we are still a longgg way from renewables powering the grid
this remains one of the fastest capacity growths of a new power generation technology in history, and by all signs it appears to still be accelerating. 10 years to go from a small part of the grid to surpassing coal is legitimately impressive.
This is obviously good but solar only surpassing coal *now* should throw some cold water on this site’s belief that we are like a week away from running the grid on renewables
