Vreselijk.
After the adoption of the Deportation Regulation, the extreme right yelled ‘sent them back’. Disgraceful.
Shame on the christian democrats and liberals who are complicit in the dehumanisation of migrants.
Without any justification, Von der Leyen hands out another cheque of €1.5 billion to Sisi. Without any prior report to Parliament.
A middle finger towards human rights, parliamentary democracy and the Egyptian people. Outrageous.
The EU must act upon its values, and not serve as a cash machine.
Today’s Art. 7 hearing gives MS a real chance to test Hungary’s Rule of Law reform plan. The anti-corruption steps are welcome, but a democratic reset can’t be selective. I urge MS to press for reform across all tracks, incl. asylum, LGBTIQ-rights, civic space, media freedom & judicial independence.
My Spanish colleague Asens calls upon his government to request the Court of Justice to annul the Return Regulation because it violates fundamental rights. Spain voted against in the Council.
I strongly encourage Spain to continue its fight before the Court!
