Really cool (and somewhat freighting) work on Gen AI use and highschool performance in China. Homework Scores rocket up, time spend doing homework collapses, then predictably exam scores are way down. Results show bimodal response ~75% see scores drop, the other 20-25% keep doing the work.

If ppl think anything this would deter high schooler well… so there you REALLY need some rethinking of education that elicits learning for its own sake, and do very clever things with making homework a learning tool not part of evaluations (or get rid of homework? Idk…)

given Gen AI isnt going away ( but it might be regulated!!), and left to their own devices and in this environment a great majority slump, we really really need to consider how to re-imagine learning in this context, or figure out regulations…
