In his first interview since being kicked out of the US, FIFA referee Omar Artan tells’s the NYT’s Matt Bigg that the biggest dream of his professional life has been shattered. The World Cup ref was questioned for 11 hours, held in a cell and then dumped on a plane.

If the Republican Party as an institution in 2026 can't bring itself to accept the legitimacy of a loss in *the race for mayor of Los Angeles* how exactly is a close midterm election going to go?

lol come on: "allegedly shifting positions... a 'shift' that we’re only aware of after the unauthorized leak of video..."
There used to be an art to the non-answer answer — a sort of headfake where you half-address the question and then pivot to your talking points in a way that manages not to scan in the moment as an obvious dodge. Increasingly it seems media trainers and candidates aren't even bothering with that.
Not mentioned in this ad: Rutinel's vote a month ago in favor of a near-total repeal of the first-in-the-nation AI law being touted here.
Looks like Rep. Diana DeGette briefly ran this digital ad promoting a wild smear of left-wing primary challenger Melat Kiros. It's been taken down after being active for just 13 hours yesterday.
This post can't decide if Rutinel reversing himself on a dozen major issues in the space of a year is no big deal because that's just how things work, or if public scrutiny of those reversals is a beyond-the-pale backstabbing. It can't be both!
(You can see for yourself just how grossly that headline mischaracterizes Kiros' anodyne acknowledgment of the decades-long cycles of violence that define the Israel-Palestine conflict. Don't think this kind of thing is really working anymore, and certainly not when it's this thin and desperate.)

RAJU: But what evidence is there to prove the California election is rigged?
MIKE JOHNSON: Look, some of these efforts are so diabolical and so far upstream it's impossible to prove. But I think everybody knows instinctively that something is wrong here.
CO-8 Democratic primary candidate State Rep Manny Rutinel said earlier in his campaign that he supports universal single payer health care.
Rutinel repeatedly refused to say whether that is his position today.
I asked three times before moving on with the 9NEWS CO-8 Dem debate.
