The Economic Cost of DHS Attacks on Immigrants @epi.org webinar with @chloeneast.bsky.social, me, and Erica Williams us06web.zoom.us/webinar/regi...
Satisfying to help set the record on work requirements straight with @adrianna.bsky.social "Given the research evidence and policy details, we conclude that, in the real world, Medicaid work requirements are much more likely to worsen poverty than to reduce it."
Anyway, my deep and sincere thanks to @chloeneast.bsky.social & @adrianna.bsky.social for rapidly providing this explainer. It is critical that people who know the issue push back against misleading govt info. Reporters: you know who to call on this topic! donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-trump-...
We're all so lucky that @chloeneast.bsky.social & @adrianna.bsky.social took the time to apply their expertise to this sham of a report.
New at Can We Still Govern: The Trump admin released a report saying that Medicaid work requirements will increase work and reduce poverty. There is a technical term for this: malarkey. Actual experts @chloeneast.bsky.social & @adrianna.bsky.social break it down. open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...
Even if you take the ASPE report's lit review at face value — and you shouldn't, it skips critical recent + relevant work — the rosiest 1990s work requirements study in their technical appendix suggests an effect size less than 10% of what the report's "model" projects with @chloeneast.bsky.social:
Not only do Medicaid work requirements not increase employment, but a majority of adults on Medicaid already work.“It’s hard not to think that the cruelty of the policy is the point,” @chloeneast.bsky.social said. “Adding work requirements to Medicaid is part of a massive shift in our safety net."
Having relied on HHS's planning and evaluation office to provide solid evidence for assessing important policies, I'm very disappointed at their hack job supporting the Trump work requirements. @adrianna.bsky.social and @chloeneast.bsky.social have the goods. open.substack.com/pub/donmoyni...
The gap between politicians action and the will of the people is so stark This is why political organizing work is crucial right now www.aclu.org/press-releas...
Medicaid work requirements were always going to be cruel. Then, the White House intervened (likely) and made the definition of who can be exempt based on disabilities/health much stricter. This is going to kill people. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
