so it is not like all of those 4 grant labs have four full budget R01s. reminds me of a long ago piece in Science identifying ~5 "omg 7 grant PIs" and it turned out one was one who just happened to have hit on four R21 or something like that.
Useful likely not correct word but more likely emotionally appealing
I'm likely misremembering, but I thought drugmonkey did analyses along exactly these lines years ago and concluded that it's a useful rallying cry, but provides no real benefit
