I think as a horror author I'm thinking a lot about how to do it for kids. so here's my thoughts:
early readers: intro-ing them to scary stuff, but not actually trying to SCARE them
middle grade: trying to scare them, but in a fun way
YA: scaring them as much as you can w/out leaving them hopeless
