At chesdata.eu, we had a minor update to the 1999-2024 trend file to correct the 2024 seat share variable (it was raw seats instead of share), so V2 is out now.
Also, we added a new graph to CHES interactive chesdata.shinyapps.io/Shiny-CHES/ that lets users look at change over time in a country!

The CHES EU team has published a new research note in @electoralstudies.bsky.social describing some trends across the 25 years now covered by our trend file and exploring two new items included in the 2024 wave of the survey: doi.org/10.1016/j.el...
Here’s a summary thread:

The note further illustrates that these measures of horizontal accountability appear closely related to the transnational cleavage, as the party families at the pole of this divide (greens and the radical right) are also furthest from one another on the measure of horizontal accountability. 5/
We thank the editorial team and referees at @electoralstudies.bsky.social, excellent research assistants, and most of all the hundreds of experts that completed our surveys and helped generate this data set.
The paper is here: doi.org/10.1016/j.el...
And the data can be accessed at chesdata.eu. 7/
Our short article pairs nicely with @sarahobolt.bsky.social et al’s introductory essay for the @jeppjournal.bsky.social special issue on the 2024 EP elections: doi.org/10.1080/1350...
And, as in previous waves, our teams have coordinated on question wording to facilitate party-voter comparison 6/
Check out chesdata.eu for the 1999-2024 CHES trend file, along with individual year surveys with both means and expert-level datasets.

The 2024 CHES included for the first time questions to measure positions on executive constraints & judicial independence, key features of horizontal accountability. Here, the rad right party family stands out as much less likely to support constraints on executives & judicial independence 4/
Within the note we show that while the economic left-right positioning of the radical right party family has not shifted markedly to the left overall, the economic positioning of parties within the family has become more diverse over time. 2/
We further report a sharp and sustained increase in the correlation between party positions on European integration and party stances on immigration, which indicates the emergence and durability of a transnational cleavage in European party politics. 3/
The 2024 European Parliament elections occurred in the context of mounting internal and external pressures on the European Union, including democratic backsliding, rising radical right influence an...
The 2024 EU @chesdata.bsky.social has been added to both the trend file (1999-2024) and the Shiny app. Please take both for a spin!
