One unusual skill I developed was piercing the shoot meristem dome with a microsensor tip (Unisense), allowing direct oxygen measurements in meristems with disrupted cuticle biosynthesis or mitochondrial function.

The stem cell niche in the shoot apical meristem is hypoxic, and we are proud to share that we uncovered how this state is maintained🌱
Great to see the hard work of Dani Amat, Janne Hageman and @viktoriiavoloboeva.bsky.social is appreciated by the #ISPLORE2025JP community!
Tiny shoot apical meristems demand precision and patience. During my PhD, I measured oxygen directly by inserting a 3 or 10 µm microsensor into the meristem.
Very happy that this work is now published in Molecular Plant.

#ISPLORE2025JP went beyond all expectations and gave us the best experience we could imagine. Huge compliments to the organisers! It was such a pleasure to reconnect with friends, meet new people, and see so much cool science 🌟🥹
Today it’s @epsgraduateschool.bsky.social Annual Meeting.
I am happy to present one of my favorite projects developed together with @panicuccigabriele.bsky.social, @jannehageman.bsky.social, and @daanweits.bsky.social, which has resulted in a tool for studying oxygen distribution in plant tissues.

Very grateful that my team was represented by three talks at #isplore2025jp and two posters 🇯🇵🌱🫚
Coming to you live from #ISPLORE2025JP Fresh preprint from my lab showing that leaves progressively oxygenate and how this is important for their morphogenesis. Thanks to our collaborators from @Fra_LicO2si lab. #plantscience

It's finally out! With this new paper, Salma and Monica show that hypoxia-regulated ERFVIIs are not immediately destabilised during reoxygenation: they instead persist in the nucleus to control oxidative stress genes. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
