Since cityscapes are one of my favorite sub-genres of Dutch Golden Age art, and I love Amsterdam in particular, you know that Saenredam is very close to my heart.

In 1657 Pieter Saenredam uses his old drawing of the Amsterdam Town Hall, which had burned down 5 yrs earlier, to make this beautiful painting of that vanished monument. He was born OTD in 1597.
