Policy changes create winners and losers
It’s a truism that losers complain more than winners are grateful
But we’re on a ludicrous path if those who lose out from policy decisions demand and then get compensation
That’s a recipe for nothing being decided ever
Burnham said they deserve “some” recompense, fairly leaving a politician’s wiggle room
Would suggest the recompense is a series of free open meetings about balancing trade-offs in a resource constrained environment
Only a few months since we tapped into Alex’s wisdom on our podcast

This is such sad news
He was a good man, kind and generous to all of us in sometimes difficult times
And even more importantly for the country, an outstanding & skilled public servant, as we all saw after he left MI6
Rest In Peace
