This is my biggest frustration with modern who. Effects are not everything. The @bigfinish.bsky.social Doctor Who story I listened to recently was all set in a intergalactic car park. Surely a tv version could be finish in a cardiff car park very cheaply!

I think the perception that Star Trek or Doctor Who or whatever “has” to look as good as it now does is pure ego - “Friends” visibly takes place on a set if you watch it on a decent modern TV as is still a massive hit - but I don’t think that ego is going away.
